DECEMBER WAS A GREAT START TO THE WAVE SEASON WITH 11 GREAT WAVE OF FLYING DAYS. CONGRATULATIONS TO TERESA LUTHER ON THE COMPLETION OF HER GLIDER ADD-ON TO HER PRIVATE POWER SEL. NOT ONLY DID SHE PASS HER TEST WITH FLYING COLORS (NO PUN INTENDED) BUT SHE HAD 4 STRAIGHT DAYS OF ADVANCED WAVE CROSS COUNTY TRAINING WITH HER INSTRUCTOR, MIKE MOORE.

Thank you for visiting Soar Minden, a full service soaring facility welcoming pilots from around the world, specializing in record high-altitude and cross-country flights.

We are a professional, year-round flight school and full service fixed base operator established in 1978. We offer sailplane flight instruction, glider and equipment rentals, oxygen fills, rides, towing, and glider tiedowns.

Located on the Minden-Tahoe Airport at the base of the spectacular Sierra Mountains in northern Nevada (40 miles south of Reno), the airport has two large paved runways, aviation and Jet A fuel, and parking for power pilots who would like to fly in directly. Five miles from here are excellent motels, casinos and soothing hot springs - a great way to relax after a good flight.

Soar Minden's instructional staff is experienced in all phases of soaring, from flying our modern well-equipped sailplanes to soaring cross-country in our ridge, thermal and wave lift. You will find their friendly assistance invaluable whether you are seeking advice for your first high altitude or 1000 km cross-country flight.

Blessed with superior soaring conditions, Minden is a frequent choice of the serious glider pilot. Minden is 4,700 feet above sea level, and the neighboring Sierra Mountains rise nearly 12,000 feet. Combine these high altitudes (for high speeds) with the clear dry air of the western United States and you can see why soaring pilots come to Minden to fly badge and record flights.

Soar Minden offers flight reviews, wave and oxygen checkouts (3 ATC wave windows over the field allow soaring flights in excess of 40,000ft. when conditions permit), escorted and dual cross-country glider flights. We have observers, barographs, oxygen, parachutes and the forms you will need to earn diamonds and make your soaring dream a reality. An FAA examiner is on call for flight checks.
